INDONESIA WEATHER

Being a tropical country located precisely on the equator, Indonesia has just two seasons : Dry and Rainy seasons. These two seasons usually last for 6 months. July is typically is a dry season. Indonesia’s climate is usually hot and humid with rainfall occurring mostly in low-lying areas and mountainous regions experiencing cooler temperatures.

The following is the average temperature in the areas that will be visited :

  • Yogyakarta / Magelang / Solo / Probolinggo : ranging from 22°C -32 °C or 72°F – 90°F
  • Mount Bromo is located at an altitude of 2,590 meters above sea level. In July, the temperature in Bromo is generally cool with the average daily temperature is around 10°C – 15°C (50°F -59°F), but it can go up to 20°C (68°F) during the day and down to 3°C – 9°C (37°F-48°F), at night and early morning. Sometimes can be also reach temperatures of 2°C – 5°C (35°F-41°F).

The weather in Bromo is always changing. The temperature can change from day to night and vice versa. This is because the mountain itself has different temperatures depending on which part of the mountain you are located.

Please check the weather forecast before you depart for more accurate temperature.

DURING PHOTO TOURS

  • Wear comfortable light clothing. Indonesia typically has a high humidity , averaging 61% to 95%. If you sunburn easily, wear long sleeved shirts and comfortable long pants with a hat.

  • Use sunblock during the day (recommended with minimum SPF 50+).

  • Sunglasses that block UV rays are helpful especially on sunny days in the mountains. A hat with a wide brim can prevent approximately 50% of UV radiation from reaching the eyes. UV radiation is most intense during 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Take precautions and utilize sun safety practices.

  • Wear comfortable shoes or hiking boots. A Goretex (waterproof) liner for breathability helps if the weather is damp.

  • Sandals or heels, flip flops are not recommended.  Hiking sandals can be used during the day but NOT on mountain trails as they do not provide enough ankle support.

  • Please note the cold temperature in Mount Bromo. Please bring the proper jacket which can be a down jacket or other type of jacket that is warm and wind proof. It is recommend to dress in layers in the mountain area due to the changing in temperature. Morning and nights are relatively much cooler compared to the daytime.

  • Medical : Please bring your personal medication. Common medicines are available at pharmacies but prescription medication may or may not be available especially in more remote locations.

dating from the 8th and 9th centuries, located in Central Java. Boroburdur has been a site of pilgrimage and Buddhist education for centuries. It is built in three tiers: a pyramidal base with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total surface area of 2,500 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 latticed stupas, each containing a statue of the Buddha. The monument was restored with UNESCO’s help in the 1970s. In 1991 Borobudur became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are fantastic views from the temple over green fields and trees to distant hills and volcanoes—including active Mount Merapi. Sunrise is particularly special times to be at the site.

The temples at Prambanan were built in the 9th century and is known locally as Roro Jonggrang, coming from the legend of the ‘slender virgin’. The tallest temple of Prambanan is a staggering 47 meters high. Its peak visible from far away and rises high above the ruins of the other temple. Prambanan Temple itself is a complex consisting of 240 temples.

KRATON YOGYAKARTA

The Kraton (also spelled keraton or karaton) or the Palace of Yogyakarta is a grand complex that was meticulously planned to reflect the Javanese cosmos. This elegant complex of pavilions was constructed based on ancient beliefs, of the connection between the God, human and the natural realms. Each feature holds a special symbolic meaning related to the Javanese worldview, who consider the importance of Mount Merapi and The Indian Ocean. The Kraton was built in the center, facing directly north towards the majestic Mount Merapi. Its south side was built facing the Indian Ocean, believed to be the abode of Kanjeng Ratu Loro Kidul, the Queen of the South Seas and the mystical consort of the Sultan. This splendid example of traditional Javanese architecture has no equal. The basic and original layout of the main building of The Kraton began its construction during the reign of Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, in 1755 – 1756.

SOLO / SURAKARTA

One of the historic places in the city of Solo/Surakarta is Kraton Surakarta. Kraton Surakarta is often called the Royal Palace of Surining Hadiningrat, because this palace from the past until now serves as the Sultan’s palace that preserves the cultural customs of the ancient Sultanate. Keraton Surakarta was founded by Susuhunan Pakubuwono II (Sunan PB II) in 1744. There is a museum in the palace that exhibits an array of silver and bronze Hindu-Javanese figures, weapons, antiques and other royal heirlooms. There is also a fine collection of horse carriages.

Probolinggo is a port town in East Java, surrounded by mountains and the beach, where the locals mostly live through fishing. The highly fertile soil of Probolinggo is known for its delicious tropical fruit orchards. The natural surroundings mix with the cultural traditions, making for unique photographic opportunities.  Probolinggo hosts “Karapan sapi brujul”, an oxen race which is done to celebrate the coming of harvest time for the farmers. The oxen race in muddy water and the participants gleefully try to hold the oxen.. This event brims with happiness for the harvest and cements the cultural relationships among the famers.

MOUNT BROMO

Located in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java, Mount Bromo is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia. A gigantic volcano, it straddles the regencies of Probolinggo, Pasuruan, Lumajang and Malang. Bromo stands tall at 2329m and is the most hiked mountain in Indonesia. The surrounding mountainous highland ranges between 1000 to 3676m above sea level and is noted for beautiful morning mist.
